It's January in Hampton Roads. But where's the snow?

It could be the second January in a row where Hampton Roads doesn't see any measurable snow across the area.

NORFOLK, Va. — Hampton Roads usually sees measurable snow in January.

In fact, like most cities in America, January is the snowiest month for our region.

We usually see, on average, 2.4 inches in the first 31 days of the year, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

But here we are, nearing the end of the month, and we still haven’t seen measurable snow (more than 0.1 inches).

And, it’s the second year in a row that’s happened.

This two-year no-snow streak follows one of the snowiest Januarys we’ve ever had.

In 2018, 13.1 inches of snow dumped on the region that January.

The last time we didn’t have snow in January before 2019 was 2012.

If you’re really bummed about not seeing snow so far, don’t worry. February is the region’s second snowiest month, on average.
