March 5, 2024 Primary Election Results for Virginia and North Carolina
This is where you’ll find real-time results for the March 5, 2024 Primary Election for Virginia and North Carolina.
Virginia only has the Presidential Republican and Democratic primaries. On the Republican side, former President Donald Trump has held a commanding lead against other candidates, most of whom have since dropped out but still appear on the ballot. Nikki Haley remains the last major challenger to Trump in the GOP primary.
It’s a similar story on the Democratic side with President Joe Biden facing off against a handful of challengers who have gained little traction so far. Dean Phillips is the last challenger squaring off against Biden who has not dropped out.
North Carolina also has presidential primaries, which also includes a Libertarian primary that is not being held in Virginia. Phillips also is not on the ballot in North Carolina; “No preference” is the only option against Biden in the Democratic primary. But in addition to presidential contests, North Carolina also has other federal, state, and local primaries on the ballot.
There are both GOP and Democratic primaries for the governor’s race, as current Gov. Roy Cooper is term-limited. Other statewide races include Lt. Governor, Attorney General, and several judicial contests.
In Congress, a newly redrawn US House District 1 sees a Republican primary, to which the winner will go up against Democratic US Rep. Don Davis.
North Carolina’s state legislature is also up for election in November, and numerous primary races are being held for the NC Senate and NC House.
Lastly, several North Carolina counties feature primary elections in local government, including local board of commissioner and board of education races.
