Portsmouth officer on administrative leave after shooting, burglary

Virginia State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting, while the Portsmouth Police investigate a burglary.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) -- Virginia State Police are investigating an officer involved shooting, while the Portsmouth Police investigate a burglary.

According to Portsmouth Police, on Sunday around noon police received a call regarding a residential burglary at the 1100 block of Tatem Avenue.

When officers arrived on the scene, they saw individuals exiting the residence and one was armed. This resulted in the officer involved shooting.

A suspect was shot, and was reported to have non-life threatening injuries. Police have not clarified if all suspects in the burglary have been arrested or charged.

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave until the Virginia Police Department completes their investigation.
