Dog died in Virginia Beach house fire, four people displaced

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and four people have been displaced by the fire.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Fire crews battled a house fire that killed a dog in Portsmouth Wednesday afternoon.

According to officials, Emergency Communications received a call about a fire in the 4400 block of Chelsea Street around 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and four people have been displaced by the fire.

According to 13News Now crews on the scene, the dog was taken away from the scene by animal control.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 4:50 p.m. and the home is considered a total loss.

No further information has been released at this time.
