Crews working to pickup debris in York County after repeat Nor'easters

Back-to-back nor'easters are having a ripple effect on Hampton Roads. York County Public works crews are moving as fast as they can to remove debris from last week's mess.

YORK COUNTY, Va. (WVEC) – York County Public Works crews are picking up one pile at a time.

Back-to-back nor'easters are making it difficult to clean up all the debris in York County. Public Works is asking people to be patient as workers make their way through the county.

Right now, it's only two people who pick up storm-related debris in the county. However, the rain didn’t stop them from getting the job done Tuesday.

In just the last two weeks, York County has received more than 400 requests from people to have crews come out and pick up their mess.

The county normally only gets about 50 calls a week.

Willie Banks is a crew supervisor for the Department of Public Works. He tells 13News Now because of the high number of requests, it's taking them a little longer to get to everyone's home. But he wants everyone to know they're coming.

“We’re trying to get as much debris we can Tuesday because we don't know what the weather will be like Wednesday,” Banks said Tuesday morning. “It's a lot of debris but it's just like another day, we come to work and get it.”

Crew supervisor Joe Woody tells 13News Now they have already completed more than half of the more than 400 requests from citizens.
