Two dogs rescued from Chesapeake house fire

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Two dogs were unharmed after firefighters rescued them from a burning home on Friday morning.

The Chesapeake Fire Department said the fire broke out in a home in the 2000 block of Coral Ivy Lane in the Deep Creek section of the city shortly before 11 a.m.

Crews reported heavy smoke on arrival. When firefighters went inside, they found two dogs in the living room. Both animals were taken to safety and are not hurt.

The fire department tweeted out video showing the fire appeared to be extinguished, but part of the house's roof had collapsed and smoke still rising from the building. The fire was reportedly under control by 11:31 a.m.

No injuries are reported, but two residents are displaced. Firefighters say they were not home at the time of the fire.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause if the fire.
