NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Norfolk Police's Traffic Fatality is investigating after a man crossing the street was hit and later died on Tuesday afternoon.

On Thursday, officials identified the pedestrian as 29-year-old Sean K. Spratling.

Investigators said Spratling was walking in or near the crosswalk in the 400 block of West Little Creek Road shortly before 6 p.m. when he was struck by a vehicle driving in the westbound lanes.

First responders immediately transported him to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died a short time later.

The driver of the car stayed at the accident scene.

Once the investigation is complete, the traffic fatality team will turn their findings over to the Commonwealth Attorney's Office to determine what -- if any -- charges the driver may face.
