One firefighter injured battling boat fire in Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WVEC) — A firefighter suffered minor injuries while trying to put out a boat that caught fire at a Portsmouth dock on Sunday evening.

According to Portsmouth Fire, the call came in for a fire shortly after 5:30 p.m. in the 3800 block of Adams Street. Arriving firefighters found a boat at the end of a dock fully engulfed in flames.

Due to the boat's location, firefighters needed about 800 feet of attack line to be manually stretched along the dock.

The fire was brought under control by 6:12. The U.S. Coast Guard was called to handle any environmental issues.

There is no word on what may have caused the fire, and no civilian injuries were reported. The dock owner is working with officials to locate the boat's owner.
