Crews rescue dog from house fire in Virginia Beach

While bringing the blaze under control, officials said firefighters rescued a dog.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — One person was forced out of their home after a fire in Virginia Beach Saturday evening, officials said.

Just before 7 p.m., the Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to a blaze at a single-story residence on Thompkins Lane and General Street. Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the home when firefighters arrived.

While bringing the blaze under control, officials said firefighters rescued a dog who is expected to be okay.

No injuries were reported. 

The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents secure a place to stay.

An investigation is underway.
