Person dies following fire in James City County

The fire happened at a home in the Ford's Colony subdivision. One person is dead and another is in the hospital.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — A person died after a fire broke out at a home in the Ford's Colony subdivision of James City County on Wednesday morning.

Fire officials said the fire was reported just after 7 a.m. in the 100 block of Worplesdon. One person has died, and another taken to the hospital for breathing issues, according to James City County Fire.

The person who died was identified as 72-year-old Thomas M. Collier.

The fire was brought under control around 7:46 a.m.

The James City County Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire was caused by smoking materials.
