STOP means stop: Neighbors fed up with people breaking the law

Footage shot by residents in a Bayview neighborhood repeatedly show drivers blowing through Stop signs on a residential street.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) – Several cars aren’t stopping at the four-way Stop signs in a Bayview neighborhood, and people living there say they are fed up.

It’s happening at the corner of Devon and Beach View Streets.

"I don't think you would want people doing this in front of your house. I would like them to think about that. How would you like your kids to play in front of this?" Earl Duff explained.

Duff said he’s lived off Devon Street for more than 11 years. He said the four-way Stop signs were placed at the intersection a few years ago, but many people don’t even bother stopping. He also said speed is an issue.

"We try and talk to them about it, and they get very angry. We want this to be a nice neighborhood," Duff said.

Neighbors hope the story wakes drivers up and reminds them to stop at the signs.

"You want your neighborhood to be safe and when you see people disrespecting it, doesn't feel good," Duff explained.

Neighbors said they contacted Norfolk Police Department to see if officers could patrol the neighborhood to catch speeders and people not stopping.

13News Now also reached out to police. They say that shouldn’t be a problem, and they will investigate the issue.
