Va. Tech knocks off #15 Clemson

BLACKSBURG, Va.- Clemson lost a third consecutive game for the first time this season Wednesday night, falling at Virginia Tech, 65-58, at the Hokies’ Cassell Coliseum. The loss dropped the Tigers to 20-7 overall and 9-6 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Clemson slipped into a fourth-place tie in the league standings with Virginia Tech and N.C. State with three regular-season games remaining. Justin Robinson scored 14 points to lead the Hokies, who improved to 20-8 overall and 9-6 in the ACC.

Virginia Tech, which has won four in a row against Clemson, is 13-3 at home this season. The Tigers were playing their second consecutive game without starting point guard Shelton Mitchell, who suffered a concussion in a loss at Florida State on Feb. 14. He’s expected to return to action Saturday when Clemson plays host to Georgia Tech.

Clemson junior guard Marcquise Reed scored a career-high 28 points and made 8 of 18 3-point shots, tying the school’s single-game record. He also added 10 rebounds. Junior center Elijah Thomas had 12 points and 10 rebounds for his eighth double-double this season for the Tigers.
