NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- From one shop to shop at the Selden Market there was no shortage of creativity and uniqueness.
"I do a collective, collaborative, artistic expression collective with African women in Nigeria," said Sia Alexander, owner of Pure Lagos.
She has everything from West African clothing and accessories, to books and household items at her business,
"I bring over all kinds of wonderful art and creative practical utilitarian art," she said.
Just a few feet across the aisle is Doughminion Donuts.
Stephanie Dietz's shop is different from "Pure Lagos," but their mission is the same---empowering women business owners and showing the world on "International Women's Day" their contribution to the local scene.
"It's just so empowering to spend my day with these strong individuals who, everyone brings something different to the table," said Dietz.
She helped organize the 'International Women's Day' at the Selden Market, where 75 percent of the businesses are women-owned.
"There's so many different businesses here and not everything is for everyone but I hope that at least people can walk away and be like yeah, I can do that. I can pour my soul into my business and I can be successful," she said.
"It's something about being around women who are doing similar things to you that gives you a certain confidence," said Alexander.
