NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) -- Police said Lawrence Smith, whom they wanted for a deadly stabbing that took place Easter Sunday, turned himself in.
Officers received a call about the stabbing in the 100 block of Louise Dr. around 5:45 p.m.
They found 39-year-old Laquita Ball had been stabbed multiple times. Ball died at the hospital.
Newport News police officers said a family member of Smith contacted the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office so that Smith, 43, could surrender. Deputies took him into custody at a gas station on Route 17.
Police said Smith and Ball knew each other. They charged Smith with First Degree Murder.
