Passenger dead, driver hospitalized after striking tree in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A passenger was killed and a driver was seriously injured when they struck a tree in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning, authorities said.

In a release on Monday, the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) said a sedan crashed into a tree near the corner of College Park Boulevard and Drew Drive just before 2:30 a.m.

Police said the passenger, 27-year-old Ethan James, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, who has not been publicly identified, was rushed to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening. 

At this time police have not said what led up to the crash or if there will be any charges.
