NORFOLK, Va. — A woman has been charged after a deadly crash in Norfolk early Saturday morning, police said.
The crash happened in the 6900 block of Chesapeake Boulevard, which is near the Norview area of the city. Police responded around 4:40 a.m. Saturday for a report of a single-vehicle accident.
When first responders arrived, they found a car collided with a concrete pole and caught fire.
29-year-old Tisha Southerland of Portsmouth, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where she later died.
After investigations, the driver, 29-year-old Jamika Ellis of Richmond, was charged with involuntary manslaughter DUI-related.
Ellis is currently held in Norfolk City Jail without bond.
