13News Now Reporter Alex Littlehales

Alex Littlehales joined 13News Now in the fall of 2020 as a reporter and multi-skilled journalist.

Alex joins the team by way of historic Savannah, Georgia where he worked as a reporter for ABC affiliate WJCL 22 News. As the COVID-19 virus began to spread in the United States, Alex reported for months on how the virus impacted the daily lives of southeast Georgia, all while transitioning to a remote work environment. He reported everything from information on local mask mandates, businesses financially impacted by the pandemic, and uplifting stories that highlighted the resiliency and positivity of his community through the outbreak.

Beyond COVID-19, Alex has covered stories that caught national attention, from court proceedings on the Ahmaud Arbery case, the disappearance and death of 18-year-old Malik Spencer, to the ‘Golden Ray’ overturned ship off the coast of Georgia. His work also includes being a key part of team coverage for several breaking stories, including social justice protests across the Savannah area and the touching-down of a deadly tornado in rural South Carolina.

Priding himself on visual storytelling, Alex loves to tell human feature stories as well as other stories on helping underserved communities.

His journey to Hampton Roads brings him a little closer to his roots. Alex is a proud Terrapin, an alum of the University of Maryland’s Merrill College of Journalism. His interest in television news began as a reporter and anchor with the college’s CNS-TV. His individual work won several awards with the Society of Professional Journalists, the MDDC Press Association, the Broadcast Education Association, as well as being honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Born and raised in Connecticut, Alex is a big pizza snob and loves to cook. A self-proclaimed food enthusiast, Alex loves finding the best-hidden gems for local food and hanging out. He grew up listening to the same classic rock bands his father grew up with and is looking forward to live music festivals once the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

Alex is also an avid sports fan, but unfortunately, his fandom for the Yankees and Knicks have not given him much to cheer about.

With an adventurous personality, you can find him exploring anywhere from Williamsburg to Virginia Beach and the Outer Banks when he's not on air!
