Local organization Soundscapes seeks to raise money to support music education for youth, young adults

The "Leap for Soundscapes Initiative" is garnering support for music education programs and performance opportunities for youth and young adults.

NORFOLK, Va. — The local organization Soundscapes is working to raise awareness of music education during February with a giving campaign celebrating the leap year.

The "Leap for Soundscapes Initiative" started on Feb. 1 to garner support for Soundscapes' music education programs and performance opportunities for youth and young adults.

People and businesses are encouraged to take a picture or video of themselves “taking a leap" and share it on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #LeapforSoundscapes. People can also donate $29 to support the organization's initiative.

The initiative will be capped off by a concert at the Ferguson Center for the Arts featuring the Virginia Symphony Orchestra and the Peninsula Youth Orchestra. That will take place on Feb. 28 from 8 to 9 p.m.
