What to do in Hartford before the Monarchs hit the court

Are you traveling to Hartford to see the Monarchs play in their first round March Madness game? Well, 13News Now sports reporter Scott Cash is there with detail on how to spend time before tip-off.

HARTFORD, Conn. — The NCAA basketball tournament is getting underway, and teams from across the country are flying to different cities to play including the Old Dominion University Monarchs.

The Monarchs are in Hartford, Connecticut for their first round game.

Scott Cash is in Hartford ahead of the game, and had some time to see exactly what there is to do for everyone traveling to support the team.

Hartford is the state capital of Connecticut. Scott decided to visit the capitol building first. He wanted to know who was going to win, Purdue or Old Dominion.

"We went to a lot of Republicans and Democrats at the capital and they couldn't come to an agreement on who was going to win," said Scott.

Next, Scott went looking to get a little culture so he went to the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum, the first public art museum in the nation.

Trip Advisor said to visit the Mark Twain House and Museum. So he did.

Twain lived in Hartford in the late 1800s and wrote his classic tales of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer and a Connecticut Yankee in King's Arthur's Court while he lived there.

Scott asked a Hartford resident, "If [Twain] had to pick someone to win March Madness, who do you think he would pick?"

"I would go with UCONN because I'm from Connecticut," the resident answered. "I don't know what's wrong with the men, but the women are doing their thing. We need to pray for those men. They need Jesus in the worst way. Because their record doesn't really look that great."
