CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Being around teenagers isn't abnormal for Casey Scalf, owner of Storybook Studios in Chesapeake.
Every year, she does senior photos for dozens of students around the area. But, over the years, she's noticed more and more students talk about their experiences with bullying.
"I created Fearless Spirit a couple of years ago when I started hearing parents tell me about how hard middle school is on their girls, and boys, but mostly girls," said Scalf.
In an effort to make a difference, she started a program called "Fearless Spirit", recruiting girls to be a part of this special group built on self-love, self-acceptance and being fearless in who they are.
By giving Casey a few weeks of their time, she hopes to show them the negative image they have of themselves is wrong.
"My job is to prove them wrong. And, so, throughout the process, I take photos of them and prove to them, 'See this is how beautiful you are. There's no denying that. It's truly you.'"
