NORFOLK, Va. — The Bird opened in Norfolk with the idea of being for anyone.
"Some craft cocktail bars can be a little gate-keepy, and brunch spots can be packed and expensive," said co-owner Daniel Worrell.
The idea behind the spot was the familiar phrase: the early bird gets the worm. Here, you can start your day with a great brunch. Worrell said he and his business partners wanted to create a welcoming spot that people would want to come to.
The menu isn't intimidating, but the food is definitely elevated with flavor and flair.
Their most popular menu item is their Chicken Biscuit. They put effort into this biscuit.
"We use chicken thighs, marinate them, bread them in-house and put that on a cornbread bun," said Worrell. It is delicious.
They also have huevos rancheros, chicken and waffles and eggs benedict. The menu goes on. There is a little something for everyone. They also have an awesome coffee bar ready for your choice of caffeine.
"We wanted to make it sophisticated but not pretentious," said Worrell.
If brunch isn't your thing, then come back for a nightcap and enjoy a cocktail in the afternoon. "We open at night for craft cocktails, espresso martinis," Worrell nodded.
They have your usual cocktails, but then they have signature drinks if you want to step out of your comfort zone. Whatever vibe you are going for, The Bird hopes you flock to them for your next brunch, drink, or both.
"We tried to make it a little bit for everyone, honestly. That was the goal," Worrell added.
