Target plans to hire more than 130,000 temporary employees for the upcoming Holiday season.

MINNEAPOLIS — The leaves haven't even turned, but the folks at Minnesota-based Target are already in the holiday mood... They're preparing to hire more than 130,000 workers to handle the approaching shopping crush.

"With another strong financial quarter under our belts, Target’s amazing team members are getting their game faces on for the busy shopping season ahead," reads a release posted Tuesday. "To make sure we’re staffed and ready to bring every guest joyful moments with their families no matter when, where or how they shop, we’re opening up more than 130,000 exciting seasonal jobs across our stores and supply chain."

The hiring process begins immediately, with Target asking potential hires to apply on a special holiday job website. The positions include 125,000 workers to fill spots at Target's 1,800 stores nationwide (which start at $13 per hour or more), and about 8,000 jobs at Target distribution centers.

While the jobs are described as seasonal, Target said Tuesday that 40% of 120,000 people hired last year stayed with the company after the holidays.

Besides a paycheck, Target seasonal employees can reap the following benefits.

  • A 10% discount at Target stores and on Target.com
  • An additional 20% wellness discount off fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, Good & Gather Organic (beginning Sept. 15), C9 and Up & Up tobacco cessation products
  • The opportunity to earn holiday pay on Thanksgiving and Christmas
  • Flexible schedules which allow team members to work a variety of hours

Rather not do things online? Target will also host seasonal hiring events at every Target store Oct. 11-13 and Nov. 2-3, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time. There you can meet with store leaders and interview on the spot, with the chance to receive a job offer during the weekend events.
