NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday.
When officers and medics got to the 4300 block of Marshall Avenue in the Newsome Park area, they found a man lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim has been identified as 29-year old Bernard Paulin. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital a short time later, at 1:41 a.m.
Police say a witness saw three men walking and then heard what sounded like a gunshot. The witness then saw two men running away and the victim lying on the ground, according to LouThurston with the Newport News Police Department.
Investigators do not have a description of the suspects.
