NORFOLK -- A community meeting on crime is focusing on the neighborhood around Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

Over the past year, several students have been robbed, shot and one student, Christopher Cummings, was murdered in his off-campus home.

But several students 13News spoke with Thursday said they didn't know about tonight's meeting.

Police and ODU officials will address at issues in Lamberts Point, Larchmont, Highland Park, Kensington and ODU.

Norfolk Police will teach attendees how to use the Crime View Community software and officers want to hear about concerns residents have.

The forum will include exhibits on crime prevention, code enforcement and community support services. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Lamberts Point Community Center.

Norfolk is emphasizing crime prevention awareness on all campuses and has created the Student Safety Consortium, which will have representatives from Eastern Virginia Medical School, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and Tidewater Community College. The group's effort will begin this month.
