NORFOLK, Va. — A Honduran citizen who is charged in state court for alleged sex offenses against a minor pleaded guilty to reentering the U.S. illegally.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Juviny Calix-Cruz originally entered the United States illegally in 2005. He was first removed from the country in June 2012. He then illegally reentered the United States and was removed again in July 2012.

Police officers came in contact with Calix-Cruz again in Norfolk in 2019. He was arrested and indicted by a state grand jury for forcible sodomy of a victim under the age of 13-years-old and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial or supervisory relationship.

"Calix-Cruz has been deported at taxpayer expense on multiple occasions," said U.S. Attorney G. Zachary Terwilliger. "Additionally he has been charged in state court with allegations of committing serious sex offenses against a minor. The prosecution and guilty plea show that the United States will continue to hold accountable those who disregard our nation's borders and laws."

Calix-Cruz pleaded guilty to illegal reentry and faces a maximum penalty of two years in prison when he is sentenced on September 6.
