Man shot and killed early Saturday morning in Newport News

According to a spokesperson, officers from the Newport News Police Department responded to reports of gunshots on Aqueduct Drive near Colony Road.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in Newport News, and police there are investigating.

According to a spokesperson, officers from the Newport News Police Department responded to reports of gunshots on Aqueduct Drive near Colony Road.

When they got there, the officers found that 30-year-old Reco Brown of Hampton had been shot. Medics took him to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

It's not the first time violence has touched this neighborhood. Police officers found one man shot to death on the same street in September 2022, and another man shot to death in December 2022.

It's part of a trend neighbors say is disturbing.

"You just don't know what else to do," said Marcus Simons, a longtime neighbor. "You see all these people holding rallies and stuff, but people just don't seem to care."

The spokesperson said that police have no suspect information. They also didn't offer any possible motive for the shooting.
