Man wanted in Virginia Beach arrested before boarding international flight at Philadelphia airport

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 23-year-old Tye’quan Juwan Thompson was at the departure gate for a one-way flight to Qatar when he was arrested.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Norfolk man wanted by Virginia Beach police was arrested Monday at Philadelphia International Airport as he tried to board a one-way flight out of the country.

According to a release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, 23-year-old Tye’quan Juwan Thompson was at the departure gate for a flight to Doha, Qatar when he was taken into custody.

The CBP says he is wanted on more than a dozen felony charges, including malicious assault and firing into an occupied building. CBP officers discovered the warrant for his arrest while vetting passenger manifests of departing international flights. According to the release, the officers confirmed with the Virginia Beach Police Department that the warrant remained active before taking Thompson into custody.

Thompson was turned over to to the Tinicum Township Police Department, where he is being held until he can be extradited to Virginia.
