NORFOLK, Virginia — On Friday, Ricky Jerrell Johnson, 45, was sentenced in Norfolk Circuit Court to two and a half years in prison for robbery by threat via a note after he passed the teller a threatening note, Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney said.

On Friday, Judge Mary Jane Hall sentenced Johnson to two years and six months in prison, with another two years and six months suspended on the condition that Johnson completed three years of good behavior following his release. He previously pleaded guilty to robbery by threat.

On June 2, 2023, Johnson was charged with robbery by threat after he passed a Chartway Credit Union teller a note saying that he had a gun and would shoot them if they didn't give him cash, officials said.

The teller complied and put cash in the bag along with a tracker. Johnson left with the bag of cash, officials said.

Norfolk police used the tracker to locate Johnson and arrested him. He was not armed at the time of his arrest.
