Pizza delivery driver killed in Chesapeake

Chesapeake police are investigating after they found a woman shot and killed inside a vehicle at Marina Point Apartment Complex.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — Police in Chesapeake are investigating the city's first homicide of 2019.

Investigators said that around 9:44 p.m. Thursday night, police responded to the Marina Point Apartment Complex for a "shots heard in the area" call.

When officers arrived they found an adult woman dead inside a vehicle. Police said she was a pizza delivery driver and was suffering from gunshot wounds.

She has been identified as 30-year-old Stephanie Brainerd from Virginia Beach.

“I’m just angry that people are trying to make a living and then someone wants to come along and destroy that," Chesapeake neighbor Maria Francis said. "Now a family is suffering because somebody thought they could do what they wanted to do.”

Shortly after she was found, additional officers attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving in the area and a short chase ensued. The chase ended in Portsmouth near Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.

It is unknown if the shooting and the chase are connected.

"When it gets close to home it becomes a reality instead of a news story," Francis said when talking about her concern for her family's safety.

Detectives are investigating and there is no further information at this time.
