Woman, man shot while pulling into driveway, Hampton police say

Investigators say someone shot a man and a woman as they pulled into a driveway on Kecoughtan Road.

HAMPTON, Va. — A man and a woman are hurt after a shooting in Hampton Tuesday night.

Just before 11:50 p.m., Hampton police say they got a call for a shooting. Investigators say someone shot a man and a woman as they pulled into a driveway on Kecoughtan Road near the intersection of La Salle Avenue.

According to police, one of the victims was treated on scene and another was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. Police say one victim was struck by gunfire and another was grazed by a bullet.

13News Now spoke to one neighbor who heard the gunshots.

“Between five to seven consecutive shots, rapid fire," said one man, who wished to remain anonymous. "I saw the police picking shell casings from the street – from the middle of the street.”

When asked if the shooting was random, a police spokesperson said detectives are working to determine the intent.

This latest shooting comes on the heels of another act of gun violence in the city.

Investigators say someone shot and killed 38-year-old Derrick Lindsay in broad daylight Sunday on Catalpa Avenue.

“The world is crazy," the anonymous neighbor said. "I mean, like someone just got killed on Catalpa. That’s right down the street from the fire station.”

Detectives are still searching for suspects in both cases.

Sunday’s deadly shooting marked the first homicide in the city over the last three months. This time last year, Hampton had four times as many homicides.
