Man facing murder charges weeks after Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. — An arrest has been made in the Portsmouth shooting that left a man dead and sent a woman to a hospital in late October, authorities announced Monday.

Markie Scarbor, 32, was arrested and booked into Portsmouth City Jail on charges stemming from the October 22 incident. He is facing several charges, including first-degree murder.

The Portsmouth Police Department (PPD) was called to the shooting in the vicinity of 10 Suburban Circle shortly before 11 p.m. At the scene, officers found a man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man, Robert Moye, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.

"With a total of 36 lives lost to gun violence in Portsmouth this year, the Portsmouth Police Department would like to emphasize the need for community support to combat these senseless acts," a spokesperson for PPD said in a release. "The department urges citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to ensure the safety of the community."
