VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) -- Police in Virginia Beach arrested a man who was able to escape custody last week and elude police for several days.

Members of the Warrant Squad/Uniform Officers and K9 arrested 44-year-old Johnny Rondell Caffee Sunday afternoon in the 200 block of Air Station Drive. Police say Caffee was placed in custody last Thursday after officers tried to pull him over for having defective equipment. They later discovered Caffee's vehicle a few blocks away. He took off from the scene, but police were able to apprehend him after a short pursuit.

Police handcuffed Caffee and placed him in the back of a squad car, but he managed to free himself and escape on foot. He faces a long list of charges which include destruction of property, eluding police and obstruction of justice.

He is currently being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.
