VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Police say a 5-year-old boy is recovering after shooting himself in Virginia Beach.
It happened at a home shortly before 6:30 p.m. Friday in the 5600 block of Larry Avenue. Investigators said the boy shot himself in the hip and was taken to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. Police have not given an update on the boy's condition.
Police believe the shooting was self-inflicted, and a man, 72-year-old Richard Bauserman, was charged with felony child neglect.
Child Protective Services is also establishing a safety plan for the family.
