Virginia Department of Corrections offender walked away from work center

The Virginia Department of Corrections apprehended 38-year-old Jason Michael Day after he walked away from the Nottoway Work Center in Burkeville.

RICHMOND, Va. — An offender from the Virginia Department of Corrections walked away from a greenhouse work unit on Monday.

On Tuesday, he was apprehended.

Around 10 a.m., Jason Michael Day walked away from a greenhouse work unit at the Nottoway Work Center in Burkeville, Virginia.

The 38-year-old offender was convicted in Scott County of possession with intent to distribute. His expected release date was July 11, 2020. 

The Virginia DOC has activated its emergency response teams to apprehend the offender.

Day was apprehended by the VADOC tactical team after an extensive effort involving multiple law enforcement entities, including the VADOC Fugitive Unit, the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Department, the Nottoway County Sheriff's Department, the Norfolk Southern Railroad Police, the Virginia State Police, the VADOC Canine Unit, the VADOC Special Operations Unit, and VADOC correctional officers from multiple facilities.
