Celebrating educators during Teacher Appreciation Week

As part of our celebration, 13News Now staff are talking about their favorite, most impactful teachers from throughout their education.

NORFOLK, Va. — It's Teacher Appreciation Week and as part of our celebration of educators, 13News Now staff are talking about their favorite, most impactful teachers from throughout their education.

Teacher Appreciation Week is crucial as it offers a dedicated time to honor and recognize the tireless dedication, expertise, and impact of educators in shaping the future.

The recognition efforts were led by former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt as she urged Congress to designate a day to thank teachers in 1953. The day was originally celebrated on March 7, but was moved to May in 1984.

The week provides an opportunity for students, parents, and communities to express gratitude for the invaluable role teachers play in nurturing minds, fostering growth, and inspiring lifelong learning. Through appreciation, we acknowledge their unwavering commitment and the profound influence they have on individuals and society as a whole.

In this fun segment, 13News Now anchors and reporters look back on their memories of influential teachers who helped shape their future. Watch the video to see this heartfelt celebration.
