Hampton home burglaries could be connected to jewelry theft ring

The crimes in Michaels Woods occurred during the day from January 31 through February 16 and could be connected to jewelry thefts throughout Hampton Roads.

HAMPTON -- Police say a Va. Beach man is responsible for two offive home burglaries in one Hampton neighborhood and the casescould be connected to jewelry thefts throughout Hampton Roads.

The crimes in Michaels Woods occurred during the day from January 31 through February 16.

In each instance, someone either kicked in doors, broke glass doors or got in through the side garage door and took items from the homes.

Cash, jewelry, TVs and other electronic equipment was taken from the homes on Dunn Circle, Michaels Woods Drive and Ridgewood Drive.

Yaree Markeeba Woods, 28,is charged withtwo counts each of breaking and entering andgrand larceny.

Some jewelry items were recovered in Norfolk, Cpl. Paula Scheck told WVEC.com.

Woods also is one of two suspects in a chase that began in York County and ended on I-64 in Hampton last week. Two State Troopers were injured.

Woods and Andre Short, 19, face charges of burglary and reckless driving.

Authorities say the men took off after being spotted duringa home burglary on Jenkins Court.

Woods is currently in custody in Virginia Beach on unrelated charges ofentering a house, grand larceny, credit card fraud and others, according to online court records.
