Free COVID vaccine clinics held as cases surge

Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated as upper respiratory infections including COVID and the flu remain widespread.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Health officials are urging people to get vaccinated as numbers for COVID-19 and flu infections continue to rise.

On Saturday, the Southeastern Virginia Health System held a vaccine clinic in Newport News. The clinic gave free COVID and flu shots to people 12 and older.

Ever since the pandemic began, SEVHS has made it their goal to make sure the community has access to vaccines.

"We're dealing not only with flu and COVID but also RSV," said SEVHS CEO Angela Futrell.

If you missed Saturday's vaccination clinic, you can get one scheduled at most pharmacies or your local health department

COVID and flu shots will also be available at next weekend's Hampton Health and Wellness Expo next weekend. It's happening Saturday and Sunday at the Hampton Roads Convention Center. The event is free to attend.

More information on the flu, RSV, COVID-19, and other respiratory diseases can be found on the VDH's website.
