Crews work to clean Oceanfront after high surf and winds

Crews worked to clear the beach after Nor'easter winds

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WVEC) - Several Public Works crews cleaned up the beach Monday after last weekends storm.

Crews worked on leveling off the sand and cleaning off trash.

"We saw people all over the place cleaning up stuff. We saw people on the beach before," explained Patrick Cucrullo.

Cucrullo is from Yorktown and is on spring break from college. He said while walking the boardwalk, he noticed damage to buildings and hotels.

"We even saw one building over there with a bunch of lights like leaning against the building. I guess they will be working on that," said Cucrullo.

Cucrullo was taking advantage of the sunny afternoon, and so was Leslie Stubbs. She said she wasn't able to walk her dog, Charlie, all weekend.

"This poor little dog you could like feel him like lifting off the ground," she said. "He was like a little kite."

Ocean Eddies Manager Jeff Hauge spent the weekend inside cleaning. The restaurant is planning on opening for the season next Wednesday.

He said, "When I went out the front door, the sand would hit you. When I got home I felt like I was rolling around in the sand."

He said the high winds even caused the Ferris wheel to move.

"It was spinning and I was like, 'oh wow they are open,' and then I realized they weren't open. It was just the wind making it move. Faster than I've ever seen it spin," Hauge said.
