Local brewery sells out of 'Unicorn Beer' in one day

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Starbucks isn't the only beverage company getting into the Unicorn business.

Bold Mariners Brewing Company introduces an expedition beer every week. Each batch is different, past brews includes a marshmallow stout, a peach tea saison, a passion fruit IPA, and even a doughnut beer!

Doughnut beer anyone?? That's right this Thursday our Expedition Beer is a Doughnut 🍩 Ale! Only one keg folks so get it while it's on.

Each experimental beer is released every Thursday.

This week, Bold Mariners decided to brighten up a very dreary week by introducing their 'Unicorn Beer.'

The beer is a cream ale with purple corn grits, lactose, vanilla bean, and mango. It is served with cotten candy on the rim and a straw covered in golden stars.

"We like to come up with new and exciting flavor trends," said Kerrie, an employee of Bold Mariners. "We like to stay ahead of the curve and always keep exploring!"

Unfortunately, Bold Mariners sold out of the magical brew Friday, just one day after its premiere. Selling out of their expedition beers that quickly isn't anything new for the brewery. Only one keg of each expedition brew is made, so they tend to sell out the day they're released.

Though the Unicorn beer is gone, another expedition brew will be introduced on Thursday. If you are curious about the new flavor, the brewery posts a clue on their Instagram page every Sunday.
