CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WVEC) -- Hundreds of people walked and ran along the Great Dismal Swamp Canal Trail this weekend.

They were part of an event that honored thousands of people who died on their way to prison camps in World War II.

The Bataan Death March was a brutal walk that spanned 65-miles in heat and harsh conditions, and this year marks 75 years since the tragic event.

On Saturday, folks came out for the 6th annual Chesapeake Bataan Death March Memorial Walk/Run. Organizers say the event is meant to not only honor the survivors and those who died in Bataan, but for all WWII veterans and families.
