Hampton police identify deadly Rally's shooting suspect as Newport News man

The Hampton Police Division said Elijah James-Sanders, 25, is facing several charges and should be considered armed and dangerous.

HAMPTON, Va. — Hampton police are looking for a Newport News man as a suspect in the deadly shooting of a 17-year-old employee at a Rally's Drive-In restaurant last month.

The Hampton Police Division said Elijah James-Sanders, 25, is facing charges of second-degree murder, burglary with the intent to commit assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling and wearing a mask in public.

According to police, he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The shooting happened on Nov. 22 in the 1000 block of West Mercury Boulevard. Investigators think that the victim was involved in a fight with the suspect. After the altercation, police say the suspect displayed a firearm, shot the victim and got away.

The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue took the victim to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, but he later died.
