Family fight leads to gunfire at Newport News restaurant

Police say 19-year-old Da’quan M. Lane opened fire during a fight outside McDonald's near CNU Monday night.

9/24 UPDATE: 19-year-old Da'quan M. Lane has been charged with shooting into an occupied building, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm within 1000 feet of a school and two counts each of malicious wounding by mob, use of a firearm in commission of a felony and misdemeanor assault.

Police say he used a gun to hit a 24-year-old Newport News man and an 18-year-old Newport News woman in the face and head and then opened fire. A bullet ricocheted, striking the window and breaking the glass, said police spokesman Lou Thurston.

NEWPORT NEWS-Someone shot into a fast food restaurant near Christopher Newport University in Newport News Monday night.

According to an alert from CNU, police were called to the McDonald's on Warwick Blvd. near Todd Stadium around 7:25 a.m.

The Daily Press reports a 19-year-old man had been detained and that the shooting was the result of an argument between two female workers. Family members were called and the argument went into the parking lot, where the teen fired a shot into the restaurant, according to the Daily Press.

No one was hurt.

At approx. 725 pm Newport News Police Department responded to a shooting incident at the McDonald's on Warwick Blvd. located just past Todd Stadium. The suspect is described as a bald black male. Suspect is wearing purple hoodie. Suspect is believed to have run north towards apartments going away from campus. Second suspect is a thin black male wearing a grey shirt. There is no current threat to the CNU Community. CNU Community is reminded to use good crime prevention techniques and be aware of your surroundings.
