NEWPORT NEWS-- A grieving Newport News family is pleading for anyone with information on the shooting death of Ricky Platt to call police.

The 16-year-old male was shot and killed Monday night at Heritage Trace Apartments, between Campbell Road and Warwick Boulevard, in the Denbigh area.

Police were called to the 100 block of Heritage Way just after midnight for a shots-fired call.

When they arrived they found the teenager lying in a parking lot next to a dumpster. He'd been shot at least one time in the torso a few feet from the apartment where he lived.

Medics tried to revive the teen but were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at 12:19 a.m.

The 10th grader's aunt, Chandra White, is pleading for anyone with information to call police.

'We need justice so Ricky can be put to rest,' White said.

Police say they don't have any suspects or a possible motive. Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
