NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) –- York-Poquoson Sheriff identified the body of a woman found stuffed into a trash can as Michelle Leigh Hull.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WVEC) –- York-Poquoson Sheriff identified the body of a woman found stuffed into a trash can as Michelle Leigh Hull.

Hull was reported missing in York Co. on Saturday, May 7.

The cause of death is still undetermined at this time.

Lieutenant Dennis Ivey with the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office said Michael L. Kerlin faces a charge of Unlawful Concealment of a Body.

Deputies arrested Kerlin Sunday.

Someone contacted Newport News police around 2:40 p.m. to tell them there was a woman's body in a trash can at Dixie Fuel Company on Muller Lane.

The business' website lists Michael Kerlin as the president of the company.

"Shocking, really shocking," said Chris Angle who works near Dixie Fuel. "This is a nice area in Newport News, and we have a lot of shopping going on here."

"It's startling really to think that it's just right here on this street that they found the body, and it's a person. It's somebody's life, especially on Mother's Day," said Angle's co-worker Hellen Chewning.

Some of Hull's friends came to Muller Lane after they heard that police found a body.

Kerlin is in Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.

In his first appearance hearing on Monday morning, Kerlin told the judge he plans to hire his own attorney. The next update in court is planned for May 18.
