NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The public is invited to attend the U.S. Navy open house on June 18.
The event will be a scoping meeting to learn about the environmental impact being prepared for the disposal of the decommissioned, defueled ex-USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, including its naval reactor plants.
Taxpayers have already spent $863 million on the process, and the Government Accountability Office says it could cost another $1.5 billion to finish the job.
The U.S. Department of Energy is a cooperating agency on the environmental impact statement.
There will be a poster session from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Denbigh Community Center in Newport News.
