The Congresswoman visited CHKD to learn how in congress she can support the healthcare industry and the community.

NORFOLK, Va. — U.S. Representative Elaine Luria visited Norfolk's Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters on Friday.

This was part of her promise to with a variety of Coastal Virginia health care stakeholders, patients, hospital leadership, and other providers.

Luria told 13News Now said she was excited for the tour to have the opportunity to talk with healthcare providers to see how to better support and treat children in our community.

During the tour, she had the opportunity to talk with doctors and patient's families about what she can do in congress to help have supportive healthcare for the Hampton Roads community.

"As a mother, I had an instance where I had to bring my daughter here to the emergency room. I really appreciated the great care that they provided. They provide passion and care," Luria said. "I want to better understand how to better provide them with resources so they can continue to do that for our community."

Mental healthcare for children was also discussed during the tour.

In March, Luria visited Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for a tour and round table discussion with healthcare leaders to talk about the challenges the region is facing.
