'Several' residents without home after fire scorches Norfolk apartment

No one was reported injured.

NORFOLK, Va. — Multiple people are without a home after an apartment in Norfolk caught fire Wednesday afternoon, Norfolk Fire-Rescue said.

There was heavy smoke coming from the second floor when firefighters arrived to the apartment complex in the 600 block of East Leicester Avenue. That's near Pinedale Street.

Crews managed to contain the blaze to the apartment where it started, extinguishing the fire within 30 minutes of arriving.

No one was reported injured, however, officials say an "unknown" number of people are displaced.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fire but initial reports suggest it may be related to the HVAC system, officials said.
