Norfolk Public Library offering free summer meals to children

The free meals are available for children ages 18 and younger.

NORFOLK, Va. — Norfolk Public Library, along with Norfolk Public Schools' Department of School Nutrition, is offering free meals to kids this summer.

Eight neighborhood branches are serving lunch, and the Slover Library is offering breakfast and lunch, according to a news release.

The Summer Meals Program is open to ages 18 and younger. No enrollment is necessary.

Below is a list and schedule of NPL’s Summer Meals Program participating locations: 

  • Barron F. Black, Lunch, Friday, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Blyden, Lunch, Monday - Friday, 12:30 p.m. - 2 p.m.
  • H.C. Downing, Lunch, Friday, 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Janaf, Lunch, Friday, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Jordan-Newby, Lunch, Friday, 12 p.m. - 2 p.m.
  • Lafayette, Lunch, Friday, 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Pretlow, Lunch, Monday - Friday, 12 p.m. - 1 p.m.
  • Slover, Breakfast, Monday - Friday, 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
  • Slover, Lunch, Monday - Friday, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

You can also text ‘FOOD’ to 877-877 to find free summer meals near you.  

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula and Virginia Beach City Public Schools are also offering free meals to kids this summer.
