Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority hit with 'data security incident' over Labor Day weekend

Steps were taken to update security protocols and secure their information, and while no files were lost or encrypted, some information appears to be copied.

NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk Redevelopment Housing Authority (NRHA) said it suffered a security breach of its network over Labor Day weekend.

In their response, NRHA said they noticed unusual activity on certain systems in their network. They shut servers down and contacted authorities to investigate the incident.

Steps were taken to update security protocols and secure their information, and while no files were lost or encrypted, some information does appear to have been copied.

NRHA has set up access to Experian's identity theft program for 12 months for those who may be affected by the incident. Those people were given notice through mail.

They also added that their email and phone operations were not affected.
