Tractor-trailer catches fire in Norfolk

Witnesses said they heard an explosion before seeing the fire break out in the truck.

NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- Firefighters were able to extinguish a fire that broke out on a tractor-trailer at a Norfolk strip mall on Wednesday afternoon.

Norfolk Fire Rescue said the call came in around 1:47 p.m. at the shopping center located at Widgeon Road and Tidewater Drive. Fire crews arrived to find the tractor-trailer's truck cab engulfed in flames.

The vehicle is a bread truck, but its trailer was empty at the time of the fire. There was a significant amount of diesel fuel leaking.

Firefighters were able to keep the flames from spreading and brought the fire under control.

Witnesses told investigators they heard a loud boom before the fire. No injuries are reported.
